About
My name is Herbert Lui, and I’m a full-time student, part-time blogger, and one heck of a digital media fanatic. Give me a chance to prove to you what the possibilities are when you choose to even take just a step into digital media.
How I got into digital media
Things have certainly changed since I was born. I’ve been able to see the transitions from VCR’s (no betamax, sadly) to DVD’s, then onto Blu-Ray and TiVo’s and even direct downloads. From tapes to CD’s, then finally to MP3’s.
My journey really started in 1998 or 1999, I can’t really recall - but I was told about KaZaA media sharing service. I saw how it worked, and how it was changing the world. I saw how my friends could play great multimedia on their computers, even emulate services like GameBoys and GameBoy Advances, which got converted from cartridges into .ROM formats. Sadly, my exposure as a child to digital media was all pretty much on the shadier side of the law - but back then, I never realized there would be any laws against this until…
…one fateful night, when I was watching The Matrix Reloaded (think 2003ish) in the theatres and saw a public service announcement discouraging stealing movies. Although I won’t say I was the whitest sheep in the pack, it had affected the way I saw digital media - how could something so simple and new already be affecting the movie theatres to such a magnitude, that the movie industry tank would need to create PSA’s to advocate for themselves?
A couple of years ago, I wizened up and decided that if everyone was to break the law like I was (well, technically, it was still legal in Canada - but is stealing music nonetheless), there would be no more music or movies being made. I decided the day iTunes Plus was announced that I would be an advocate for legally downloading music (although I’m still a huge fan of CD’s and think they’re great for value) and wish to be of service to you.
Don’t get me wrong - digital media doesn’t have to be illegal, as it’s just as great (even better, in fact) when you pay for it and receive full service and support for your money. Plus you’re supporting something that’ll get you places you could never imagine.

Er, please - don’t let this fool you. I am extremely professional when I need to be.
What can digital media do for you?
So you’ve got no extra time on your hands? Yet you are forced to sit on the bus or subway with nothing to do but blankly stare into space for a couple of hours on a daily basis.
Maybe you’re strapped for cash (like myself), but don’t want to give up on cable TV, newspaper subscriptions, or those precious magazines you get monthly.
You want a real home theatre? The ultimate gaming experience? A universal media centre in your home? And you want this to be actually an affordable and intelligent investment?
Believe it or not, digital media can do it all - here’s an example for you on subscribing to content for free.
Disclaimer - although I possess knowledge of digital media, I do not currently have all the resources required to actually create my own home theatre yet. I really wish as much as you do that I did, alas I do not.
I do review products and would definitely be more than happy to take a look at your product. For more information, please click here.
Why Digital Media Break?
Digital Media Break is amongst the first of its sort to embrace digital technology. Even though the world is so caught up in digital media, I hardly see people actually using it to its full potential - for example, people using TiVos that restrict them from moving their TV shows, which they already paid the cable companies for, to their computer or their iPod. Or people still downloading DRM-restricted tunes from iTunes or other stores out there. Sorry, but I really feel the need to open your eyes, folks.
Armed with my pen (”The pen is mightier than the sword”) and my sense of justice and entertainment, I will find for you the greatest ways to acquire digital media, the most acceptable ways to create digital media, and of course the cheapest legitimate ways to get digital entertainment, amongst the rest of those things I could be teaching you.
