What is Digital Media Break?
Digital Media Break is all about how digital entertainment can be done productively. It can? Of course it can! That hour-long commute you have daily doesn’t mean you have to go people-watching (although people-watching can be fun). And you don’t always have to get home at 9:00PM on Mondays to catch Heroes.
Pause media with Digital Media Break. Not life.
Yep, I watched that Rogers PVR commercial too.
Why read Digital Media Break?
Digital Media Break takes a look at digital entertainment done productively. If that’s not enough fun, I don’t know what is. I’ll be looking at video games, music, tv shows - all done in digital format for flexibility and convenience.
Of course, a blogger can’t own a digital media blog without being at least a bit familiar and profesh (sorry - had to use that word) with digital media, right? I’ve been creating my own videos, music, and even took a communications technology class. Oh yeah, I own an Nintendo Wii and am hoping to add the Playstation 3 to my repertoire.
Oh yeah - I’ve also cleverly designed a landing page which I hope to capture many readers with (haha).

Why would I prefer digital media over traditional media?
You don’t have to, but digital media’s got many advantages over traditional media. Digital media is actually a lot more simple than we give it credit for - in fact, if I could familiarize myself with it, so can you. These points convey how digital media appeals to me:
- I’m cheap. I absolutely hate overpaying. Winners, outlet malls, you name it - I’ve been there. And it’s the same with media, I will not pay $29.99 for an annual subscription to a magazine when I can get that content free on the magazine’s website.
- I enjoy convenience and flexibility. I don’t have to wait for it monthly, as most digital media is much more constantly updated. I don’t want to have to lug my stack of magazines around everywhere - in fact, I can just take a PDA and read my content or watch videos from there. Or movies on my iPod.
- I want my content delivered to me. Not the other way around - the days of having to drop into a dollar store to browse magazines is over. Of course, I still enjoy visiting Shoppers’ Drug Mart’s bookshelves and Chapters/Indigo stores - but at least I have the option of viewing everything over the net. Except for the atmosphere (we’re working on that, haha).
Hopefully I’ve made a good case for myself. If you’ve got the slightest inkling of an interest in digital media, let me suggest a few bits of further reading. Click the link if you want to - you will not be led away from this page, because it will open in a new window:

Want some applications of great digital media?
- Naruto - it’s subtitled into English weekly: from Japan to the world, in a matter of days. International acclaim.
- Gameboy Advance ROMs that can be emulated on the computer. But please, only use it if you really have the game.
- Backing up your DVDs to your hard drive - yep, it’s possible (and legal in certain countries), then watching them on your iPod.
- TiVo. It’s all digital, baby.
